With so many possible travel destinations across the state, country and world, why would someone want to visit Far West Texas?
The open space
The open spaces and the abundance of sky, particularly if you are not accustomed to it, can be incredibly detoxifying. Even just speeding through the area on the interstate can be a very relaxing experience.
The scenery
With the wide variety of vegetation, the changing landscapes between regions, and the incredible views from the mountains, valleys, and rivers the area is like driving through a post card of the old west.
The night sky
With some of the darkest skies in the lower 48, the opportunities for stargazing are a huge draw. Even if you are not astronomically inclined, it is hard not to be impressed by the abundance of stars in the night sky.
The people
There is a welcoming spirit to West Texans. Many people, or at least the people who put this site together, feel that West Texans are the friendliest people in the state. People are generally happy to see new faces, and with much of the area heavily reliant on the tourist economy, tourists are welcome everywhere.
The weather
There is more sunshine in the western corner of Texas than anywhere else in the state. Summer can get hot in the middle of the day, but the lack of humidity makes nights and early mornings very pleasant.
The serenity
There is a distinct cleansing feeling one gets from spending time in the wide-open spaces of Far West Texas. It's away from a lot of things - people, traffic, noise, and stress.
